[   quick-and-dirty guide   ]

Also a general guidline for the order of getting powers, if you're not sure what you want first....

Get a map from somewhere; RavenBlack Tuning or LIAM are generally best. Beginners will probably benefit most from LIAM. Be sure to bookmark a site such as A View In The Dark so you can get shop/guild locations.

Donating to Raven Black is generally a good idea as well, if you can use PayPal. In case something comes up and you cannot get to the site for a month or so, this will prevent your account from getting automatically deleted for inactivity. Try for 10 USD; this will get you Second-Sight, Celerity-1, and Surprise.

Bite humans until you have at least 3,000 (3k) coins. If you manage to catch any vampire hunters in this time, even better. Get to Thieves Guild 1 and purchase both powers (Shadows-1 and Thievery-1). Keep going as you had before (robbing with only Thievery-1 is pretty useless, so don't bother), until you have 5,000 coins. Go to Thieves Guild 2 and get both of the powers that are there.

At this point, you can decide to either go for Perception or finish up your business with the Thieves Guild. Generally most people try and collect the coins for the Thieves Guild (a nice 14k), but with Perception (7.5k, Allurists Guilds) you can track Vampire Hunters more efficiently. Whichever you goal you accomplish first, tackle the other option next (if unsure, go to the Thieves Guild first).
Note that you may not want to get Shadows right away - it depends on your level of activity. If you log in every day or every other day, don't bother with Shadows because you can put that 7000 coins to better use. If you're fairly inactive, then you'll want all 3 levels of Shadows because that will prevent you from being bitten/robbed too much. However, you will need to get Shadows at some point no matter which you decide. Just if you're first starting out you'll be able to get your other powers a bit faster if you temporarily slate Shadows to step six or seven of this guide.

If you had over 500 blood by any point in steps 1 or 2, go for Stamina-1 (1k coins). If not, this is where you quest for Suction so that you can build up your BP faster. After you gain Suction, throw in a Charisma-1 quest and post it to the COVE while you're building up BP (Charisma is cheap, 7k for all 3 levels, and very valuable later on). While the COVE was once a great place to get your Charisma quests finished for you, lately it has not been as active - so don't put too much faith in it. I recommend you go near the pub mentioned to you (but not in it) and ask random vampires if they can go into the specified pub and say "[your vampire name] sent me"... giving out coins may help strangers to be more receptive to requests.
By this point I'll assume you have Surprise already from donating. If not, go get it.

Here's where the tougher parts start. Finish up Charisma, and if you can, get Stamina-2. Start collecting coins like there's no tomorrow while your Charisma quests are going, as you'll need a lot. Once you have Charisma-3, track down Discount Magic and buy a boatload of Sprint Potions (100-200). A few Scrolls of Displacement are handy, and if you can afford it - a few Scrolls of Teleportation just in case. If you don't have Celerity-1 from donating, do the quest for it.

If you have over 1,500 BP, do the quest for Stamina-3. If not (but hopefully you should be able to get Stamina-3), start the quest for Celerity-2. When you're finally done, restock on Sprint Potions (keep it over 150-200) and get a few more scrolls if you want. Begin collecting coins again; and you should have all 3 levels of Stamina before you proceed..

Now, what is possibly the longest and most difficult quest in the game - Celerity 3. After this, you will regenerate AP at half what you originally could, which may make you want to log in twice a day to prevent yourself from wasting AP. Your last two powers will be Locate-1 and Locate-2, both pieces of cake, unless you want to get all three levels of Telepathy too (which you probably should, and these powers will be your last to get as they don't help with getting other powers).

Congratulations, you are now done with the powers. Remember to not bother with Locate-3, Neutrality, or the Battlecloak. Your only goal now is to collect coins - lots of them. Blood is important too, but not as important as coins; generally more than 10k-20k BP is considered excessive. To avoid getting bitten/robbed so much, here's a few tips: stay away from heavy-traffic areas such as transits/banks, don't stay in the same squares as anyone (or anything) else, and don't stay in a square that has the street name above you (street corner, @).

If you get bored, there's always clans to consider; just be sure to not pick a terrible one. Bad clans can be noted for having massive amounts of members (these clans usually just collect members and do not value individuals) or do a lot of in-city recruiting (vampires will speak or shout statements about clans, and include a link to that clan's website). If you are sent a telepathic message about a clan, be flattered and check it out (you don't, of course, have to join). You can also find an active newspaper (such as The Bite to frequent if you'd like to meet other players, or a variety of other things that may be of interest.

Another thing you may want to do is create an alt (another game account) but remember: do NOT have any interaction between your accounts. EVER. They cannot bite/rob/attack the same target, or exchange coins/items. Any interaction will result having your accounts locked (Deleted For Cheating), and the only way to get them back will be to pay RavenBlack real money - and this amount increases sharply the more times you are caught cheating. Other penalties will also be bestowed upon you, and you may even lose your vampire's hard-earned powers. It's best to keep your vampires as far away from each other as possible to avoid any accidents, and don't make too many accounts.

How will you power up your alt? Well, almost exactly the same as you did for your main vampire. Optional powers will be Shadows and Telepathy, and you will want Locate-3 this time around. That way your alt can Second-Sight people to find out their exact location, and your main can find the specific square. What you really want your alt to have are following powers: Second-sight, Surprise, Perception, Thievery-3, and Locate-3. Celerity-3 and Stamina-3 are good too, if you can get them, and in order to complete the Stamina quests you may want Suction to help.
